Take Action!
United Staff relies on the contributions of staff members who support a union. There are many ways that you can get involved in our effort. Here are some ways that you can help:
#1: Fill out the survey for all UVM staff indicating your support for a union
If you haven’t already filled out the survey distributed in April 2011, you can print the survey and mail it in, or email us at union[at]unitedstaff[dot]us and ask for an electronic survey by email.
#2: Join Our United Staff Leadership Team
Our leadership meetings are open to any UVM staff who wish to take on projects or a more active role in our organizing effort. We meet (almost) every week on Fridays during the lunch hour. Emails us for the location: union[at]unitedstaff[dot]us
#3: Sign up for our weekly e-alerts
Each week we send out an email about upcoming events, projects, and meetings. Add your email to the list and get informed. Sign up here.
IMPORTANT: If you don’t already have one/use one, please get a non-uvm email address to insure your privacy and safety in corresponding with us about union efforts. UVM owns your uvm email address and can access it at any point (it is true, there is a policy about it). Trust us, you will want to get your own email address for lots of reasons knowing this.
#4: Get visible
Wear your United Staff @ UVM button (or get one!), put static cling stickers in your car windows and work windows and on your water bottles, and put regular stickers on other stuff. Need some US bling? Email us! union[at]unitedstaff[dot]us
#5: Talk to your Co-Workers
Talk with your co-workers about why now more than ever you support a union for staff. United Staff holds quick but effective workshops on how to talk to your co-workers about the union, so email us if you’d like to attend one of these. We’re also happy to join you and back you up as you approach your coworkers, so let us know if you’d like company.
#6: Add your picture and blurb to this website
Pictures go a long way to helping staff feel like we count. Go public with your support and send us your photo and a statement about why you support our effort!
#7: Help with a United Staff project
There is much to do. Help us plan events, write for our newsletter or website, talk to your co-workers, collect signatures and more! Email us! We have committees that would love to have you!
#8: Believe
We can and will organize a union for staff at the University of Vermont. Find a way to add your ideas and your energy!
